Apple Music Opens New 600-Capacity London Concert Venue

Apple has opened a new 600-capacity live music venue at London’s Battersea Power Station, giving Apple Music a purpose-built space for intimate concerts, recordings and globally streamed performances.

Apple Music Hall combines a traditional concert venue with recording and broadcast facilities, including a 38-foot-wide reconfigurable stage, a 48-speaker spatial sound system, dedicated recording and mixing studios and infrastructure supporting more than 16 cameras. 

“Apple’s deep love for music dates all the way back to the very beginning, from the launch of the iPod to the long-running iTunes Music Festival to the debut of Apple Music,” Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and International Content, said.

“Today, with the opening of Apple Music Hall, we are once again taking an unprecedented step further in our commitment to artists and fans by supporting live music in ways only Apple can do,” Schusser added.

Located inside Battersea Power Station along the River Thames, the venue draws on elements of the historic building with heritage brickwork, fluted arches and bronze balconies. A large glass wall provides views across the power station concourse and toward the river.

The 600-capacity room is designed to combine an intimate audience experience with production capabilities more commonly associated with significantly larger venues. Its stage can be configured for conventional front-facing performances or in-the-round shows.

“At Apple Music, we care deeply about music, the artists who make it, and their life stories,” said Zane Lowe, Apple Music’s global creative director and lead anchor for Apple Music 1.

“We’re always looking for new opportunities to connect the artists and the fans because we are fans,” Lowe continued. “What better way to celebrate this relationship than a new music venue where we get to experience amazing music in an amazing space and share it with the world.”

“Great music and memories will be made at Apple Music Hall,” Lowe said. 

The opening gives Apple a permanent live-music space in London after its earlier run producing the iTunes Festival, which was later renamed the Apple Music Festival. That event brought artists to London for performances that Apple distributed through its digital platforms.

Apple Music Hall also opens as the company has been strengthening the connection between Apple Music and the broader live-events business. Earlier this year, Ticketmaster became the first ticketing platform to integrate directly into Apple Music, adding personalized concert recommendations and ticket-purchase links to the streaming service.

Apple Music separately expanded its relationship with Bandsintown, bringing concert information supplied through the platform to Apple Music artist pages and its Concerts discovery feature.

Apple has not yet announced the first artists scheduled to play Apple Music Hall. Details about tickets for upcoming performances will be released through the venue’s website and social channels.

The company is also opening new Apple Music Radio studios at Battersea Power Station. All of Apple Music Radio’s London-based hosts and programs will broadcast from the new facilities, which will be used for interviews, specials and other artist programming.
